Dislocation of the temporomandibular joint
- displacement of the articular head of the lower jaw.
Etiology of temporomandibular joint Dislocation
Strong opening of the mouth (when eating, shouting, yawning, removing a tooth, probing the stomach, intubation, etc.), trauma.
PathogenesisDislocation of the temporomandibular joint
It is associated with a sprain or rupture of the joint capsule. The innate weakness of the ligamentous apparatus is important.

Types of dislocation of the temporomandibular joint
There are complete and incomplete dislocations ( subluxation ), anterior , posterior , unilateral and bilateral .
Typical anterior dislocation, characterized by pain, inability to close the mouth, difficulty in speech, salivation.
With a bilateral dislocation, the mouth is open wide, and with a unilateral dislocation, the chin is shifted to the healthy side. Palpation reveals the articular head in front of the articular tubercle.
In posterior dislocation, the head is located posteriorly from the articular fossa.
TreatmentDislocation of the temporomandibular joint
The dislocation is set under anesthesia in the patient's sitting position. The doctor, standing, with his thumbs wrapped in gauze napkins, presses on the lower painters and without sudden movements pulls the lower jaw down. The articular heads in the position below the articular tubercles are installed in the articular pits. The set lower jaw is fixed with a sling-like bandage for 2 weeks. Habitual dislocations are treated orthopedically.
ForecastDislocation of the temporomandibular joint
Favorable.
PreventionDislocation of the temporomandibular joint
It consists in fixing the chin during interventions..
