Glossitis
- catarrhal or purulent inflammation of the tongue tissues. This term also refers to symptomatic (pernicious anemia, beriberi, some dermatoses, acute infections) changes in the language and abnormalities of the structure (rhomboid, folded tongue, etc.).
Local irritating factors, bone prick, bite, and other injuries.
Symptoms and course of Glossitis
With catarrhal glossitis, a burning sensation in the tongue, pain when ingesting spicy food. The tongue is hyperemic, swollen, and the papillae of the tongue are preserved. When the abscess of the tongue increasing pain, worse from touching; slurred speech, drooling, tongue is enlarged unevenly, border swelling indistinct, the development is slow. With phlegmon of the tongue-pain, violation of swallowing, speech, breathing, salivation. Edema of the bottom of the mouth and neck, intoxication, increased body temperature.
Treatment Of Glossitis
Treatment of catarrhal glossitis-elimination of irritating factors (Tartar, sharp edge of the tooth, dentures), irrigation of the oral cavity with 2% sodium bicarbonate solution. Abscess and phlegmon require surgical treatment.
The Prognosis Of Glossitis
Catarrhal glossitis passes in a few days; with purulent – radical autopsy and active antibiotic therapy determine a favorable outcome.
