Polish cuisine: fish dishes

Poland is a country rich in lakes and rivers, and therefore the menu of local residents, especially in Pomerania, an important place is given to fish. Fish can act as a filling for sandwiches, and as a main dish. Moreover, it is often used to prepare salads, masses or Bigus (bigos).


Herring, cod, and Baltic salmon are often served boiled, marinated, or fried (including grilled). Pike is cooked or stewed, and then seasoned with chili pepper and garnished with boiled vegetables.

Among the unusual Polish dishes, you can distinguish salted herring fried in dough, Bigus (bigos) from Zander , soup with fish meatballs and smoked herring with cottage cheese.
